C₂-ceramide inhibits insulin-stimulated glucose uptake. 3T3-L1 adipocytes were incubated with C₂-ceramide (C2) (100 μM) or C₂-dihydroceramide (C₂H₂) (100 μM) for 2 h, with insulin present for the last 15 min. The uptake of radiolabeled 2-deoxyglucose was measured for 4 min. The asterisk denotes that the difference from the uptake in the presence of insulin alone was statistically significant at a P value of <0.05. Data presented are the averages ± standard errors of the means of three independent measurements.
