Gag alignment ranging from the MHR to the zinc finger motifs for HERV-H consensus and other gamma-HERV-W, -E, -T, -GALV, -MLV, and -FeLV together with two beta-MMTV and -MPMV, one epsilonretrovirus (Xen1), and the more distant retrotransposons (Gypsy and Copia). MHR consensus (Φ, aromatic; O, hydrophobic amino acids; invariants are Q, E, and R) was adapted from Benit et al. (2). The HERV-H sequences share the properties of double zinc finger motifs missing in the other gammaretroviruses that in contrast display an increased density of charged residues in the charged segment.
