Outline of the methodology used to estimate the “added sugar” content of the packaged food supply in Australia. The methodology can be adapted to different added sugar definitions through modifying Steps 2, 3, 5 and 6 as indicated in the figure. 1AUSNUT, Australian Food and Nutrient database. AUSNUT is a nutrition database that contains nutrient values for 5740 generic foods and beverages [27] using information collected from a variety of sources including the nutrition information panel and ingredients list, data from laboratory analysis and data from international food composition databases [27, 28].
