Definition of nanomaterial according to various organisations.136,186,270,271.

FDA Material that has at least one dimension in the range of approximately 1 to 100 nm and exhibit dimension-dependent phenomena
OECD Manufactured nanoparticle refers to particles that have a physical size of less than 100 nm in at least two dimensions that are deliberately produced rather than merely emerging as a by-product in activities not targeted to produce these particles
EC A natural, incidental, or manufactured material containing particles, in an unbound state or as an aggregate or as an agglomerate and where, for 50% or more if the particles in the number size distribution, one or more external dimensions is the size range 1 to 100 nm
ISO A material with any external dimension in the nanoscale or having internal structure or surface structure in the nanoscale
Health Canada Any manufactured product, material, substance, ingredient, device, system, or structure if: (1) it is at or within, the nanoscale in at least one spatial dimension, or (2) it is smaller or larger than the nanoscale in all spatial dimensions and exhibits one or more nanoscale phenomena
