Despite being nearly twice as common in men, thoracic aortic aneurysms in women display more disruption in the aortic wall architecture and a more aggressive form of the disease characterized by faster aneurysm growth rate, greater predisposition to acute aortic syndromes, death, worse perioperative outcomes, and higher postoperative complication rate compared with their male counterparts.
