TABLE 5.

Consensus statements regarding tailoring the Dietary Guidelines for Americans to current nutrition concerns.

Statements
Well-constructed low-carbohydrate dietary patterns (or menu models) can be adequate and comparable in diet quality to existing DGA menu models.
Adding a low-carbohydrate dietary pattern to the DGA is consistent with improved nutrition security and health equity.
Low-carbohydrate diets are helpful for addressing insulin resistance within the general population and in those with or at risk of certain metabolic impairments and diet-related diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease, obesity, metabolic syndrome, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, neurodegenerative disorders, certain cancers, etc.).
