Glossary of key measures

Measure Definition Calculation
Involvement (of a potential allomother) The amount of time that a child spends in close proximity to a given potential allomother as a proportion of the time that child spends in close proximity to all potential allomothers. Beacons received by child's mote from the potential allomother's mote/total beacons received by child's mote from all potential allomothers’ motes.
Aggregate involvement (of a category of potential allomother) The amount of time a child spends in close proximity to all members of a given category as a proportion of time that child spends in close proximity to all potential allomothers. Sum of involvement of all members of a given category of potential allomother in a child's network.
Adjusted involvement (of a category of potential allomother) The amount of time a child spends in close proximity to an average available member of a given category as a proportion of the time that child spends in close proximity to all potential allomothers. Available refers to cases when a potential allomother lives in the same camp as a child. Mean involvement of a member of a given category of potential allomother in a child's network. Cases where there are zero available members in a given category are therefore excluded.
