Combining the forty MS-identified proteins with the five osteogenic proteins that were validated in the study, the protein interaction information from the String database was used to build a calcification-specific network. The protein network was visualized in Cytoscape, which includes 24 MS-identified proteins (big nodes), 5 osteogenic proteins (big nodes) and 42 additional linker proteins (small nodes) that are known to associate with the key target proteins. The relative difference in protein abundance between the calcified and non-calcified areas are represented by the node color and intensity, while gray represents linker proteins without data.
