NPs associated with clinically isolated CF mucoid P.
aeruginosa-produced biofilms. (A) Pearson’s
coefficient was calculated for ALG and DXS NPs interacting with biofilms
produced from isolated mucoid P. aeruginosa strains. N = 3 independent biofilms were tested,
and at least N = 5 images were taken per biofilm,
though co-occurrence data of 1.0 were considered artifacts of the
image analysis software and were excluded. Colored asterisks below
the significance lines denote outlier data points. Statistics are
calculated using an unpaired student’s t-test,
where * means p < 0.05, ** means p < 0.01, and **** means P < 0.0001. Note that
the open circles are images shown in the next panel. (B) Confocal
imaging of biofilms formed by strain 4305, portrayed as the maximum
intensity throughout the entire z-stack of the biofilm, edited with
ZEN software. Scale bar = 20 μm.
