Table 7.
Experiment 2, L2 group: the proportion of correct answers depending on different factors.
Word order + NP givenness | Context / NP role | NP position | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
SVO + given | OVS + new | G-N + S | N-G + O | 1 | 3 |
71% | 42% | 59% | 54% | 63% | 50% |
Two groups of factors significantly affected the results: the word order/givenness (β = −1.37, SE = 0.20, p < 0.001) and the NP position (β = −0.70, SE = 0.20, p < 0.001). In case of word order and givenness, both factors probably influenced the results working in the same direction and resulting in the most pronounced effect (the former was significant in Experiment 1 and for RT data in the current experiment, the latter was the main factor affecting RTs). The NP position factor that played a role in Experiment 1 remained significant, as expected.
