Potential mechanisms of interaction between HFD and chronic diseases through SCFAs. HFD reduces the synthesis of SCFAs in the host. SCFAs can inhibit an inflammatory reaction, maintain the anaerobic environment of the intestinal cavity, and regulate appetite, energy metabolism, glucose and lipid metabolism.
