Primary SIVmac251 was grown in rhesus PBMC and is a single passage of the animal challenge stock of this virus. Laboratory-adapted SIVmac251 was passaged repeatedly in H9 cells.

Results are expressed as relative fluorescence intensities generated by Tat-activated green fluorescence protein expression. +++, ++, +, and −, strong, moderate, weak, and negative fluorescence, respectively.
