Integration of the BAC vector into the HSV-1 UL41 gene. PCR products were generated from HSV cos56 and pBAC-V1 and pBAC-V2 with the indicated primer pairs and separated through a 0.8% agarose gel. The loss of 1.0 kb from the PCR products derived from pBAC-V2 is due to excision of the pac cassette from this clone. The marker used in lane M is the 1-kb Plus Ladder (Life Technologies Inc.).
