For quantitation of number of HIV gag mRNA molecules, the gel was scanned on a PhosphorImager (Molecular Dynamics), using ImageQuant and Microsoft Excel programs, in comparison to a standard curve in a linear range on each gel. Viral samples were diluted to fall within the standard curve.
