Osteomyelitis-associated tumor growth inhibition is not pathogen specific. a Mice were infected with S. aureus containing biofilms 3 days before tumor challenge. Growth kinetics were assessed by two-dimensional measurements and the longest diameter is reported as the mean (±SEM) calculated for each group. Infected C3H mice (n = 5 per group) challenged with syngeneic DLM8 osteosarcoma cells have a significantly inhibited tumor growth (p < 0.02) compared to uninfected mice as assessed by a two-tailed paired t test and are representative of three independent experiments. b Mice were infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm-impregnated suture three days prior to challenge with DLM8 cells. Tumor growth was assessed as previously described. Infected mice had a significantly (p < 0.01) decreased tumor growth compared to uninfected mice
