Demyelination induced by recombinant viruses. C57BL/6 mice were inoculated intracerebrally with various doses of wild-type (■), C12 (▵), and recombinant wtR10 (•), wtR1 (▴), 159R36 (□), and 159R40 (○) viruses. Animals surviving the acute infection were sacrificed at 30 days postinfection, and spinal cords were analyzed for demyelination by staining with luxol fast blue as described in the text.
