Linear perspective geometry. (a) Linear perspective imaging is defined by an image plane, a COP, and an optical axis (view direction). The principal point is the intersection of the optical axis with the image plane. The color at an image point is determined by the light incoming to the COP along the ray from the image point. (b) When viewing the picture from the COP in ideal conditions, the eye will receive the same light as if it were looking through a window into the real scene, regardless of their gaze direction.
