The effects of terpinen-4-ol on the expression of the Prx genes in T. thermophila. The T. thermophila cells were exposed to the indicated concentrations of the stressor for a period of 10 min before being pelleted by centrifugation, resuspended in 5 ml of SSP medium, counted and then pelleted again. RNA was extracted from 4 × 10⁶ cells as described in the “Materials and methods” section. The transcript abundances for the Prx genes have been normalized to the transcript abundance for GAPDH using the formula ^−∆Ct. The ‘raw’ transcript abundance for GAPDH is also shown, calculated using the formula ^−∆Ct. The columns represent the means and the bars represent the standard errors of the means (n = 3).
