The alignment of protein sequence of the major isoform of MBP shows a high similarity among different spices (http://www.uniprot.org/). The position of the hydrophobic phenylalanine residues (F) in MBP is shown, which are required for its polymerization into a cohesive protein meshwork [22]. One of the critical phenylalanines patches within the MBP sequence overlaps with a highly, conserved segment, which has been shown to form a membrane-associating amphipathic α-helix [19, 35, 37].
