^aThe presence (+) of antibodies to surface epitopes in the postclearance serum sample demonstrated by adsorption and elution with the homologous infecting strain of M. catarrhalis is indicated. The antigens to which antibodies were directed were identified by a combination of analysis with monoclonal antibodies of known specificity, amino-terminal sequencing of protein bands, and analysis of well-defined mutants. The numbers indicate the relative densities of bands in immunoblot assay based on the integrated density values of preacquisition/postclearance serum samples assayed with the homologous infecting strain.
