Homogenated hearts taken from mice at day 4, day 8, day 14, day 21, day 28, and day 53 p.i. were assayed on HeLa cell monolayers and examined for CPE. Total RNA purified from HeLa cell monolayers was used for RT-PCR with primers E1 and E2, and amplimers were detected by agarose gel electrophoresis and staining as described in Materials and Methods.
