Induction of cell death in rodent and human hepatocytes by tumor necrosis factor‐related apoptosis‐inducing ligand (TRAIL) in combination with histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDI) or actinomycin D (ActD). Twenty‐four hours after administration of HDI or 1 h after administration of ActD, cells were exposed to TRAIL for another 24 h. AML12, cell death was determined by flow cytometric analysis of propidium iodide (PI) uptake; primary rat hepatocytes (PRH), cell death was determined by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assay; primary human hepatocytes (PHH), cell viability was determined by Alamar Blue assay.
