Effect of RA‐VII, its water‐soluble derivative, RA‐III and RA‐V on the migration of bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAEC). The wound migration assay was carried out as described in Materials and Methods. BAEC were treated with the indicated concentrations of compounds with or without basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) (1 nM) for 24 h: (a) RA‐VII (b) water‐soluble derivative, (c) RA‐III and (d) RA‐V. The number of cells that migrated from the wound margin were counted and calculated as the mean of five fields per dish, and the values are expressed as the mean ± SD of four dishes. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01 versus control; #P < 0.05, ##P < 0.01 versus bFGF alone.
