Per 100,000 live births. For each age stratum, the decomposition components are calculated for each time period. As an example for 2014–2019: Let P2014 = the proportion of the age distribution in 2014 and P2019 = the proportion of the age distribution in 2019. Let R2014 = the maternal mortality rate in 2019 and R2019= the maternal mortality rate in 2019. The age distribution component = (P2019 – P2014) × [(R2014 + R2019)/2]. The age-specific rate component = (R2019 – R2014) × [(P2014–09 + P2019)/2].
MMR maternal mortality rate per 100,000 live births with states excluded who had not adopted the checkbox as of 2014 (Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia)
ASMR represents age-specific maternal mortality rate per 100,000 live births.
