Nontraditional Risk Factors and Incident CAC in Older Age

Nearly one-half of persons ≥65 years of age developed incident CAC over a median follow-up time of <4 years. Among nontraditional RF and measures of subclinical CVD or atherosclerosis, only albuminuria and TAC were significantly associated with incident CAC in persons ≥65 years of age. Apo-B = apolipoprotein-B; CAC = coronary artery calcium; CRP = C-reactive protein; CVD = cardiovascular disease; eGFR = estimated glomerular filtration rate; hs-cTnT = high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T; Lp(a) = lipoprotein a; NT-proBNP = N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide; TAC = thoracic aortic calcification.
