Relative reverse transcription efficiencies of wild-type and TAR mutant viruses. The reverse transcription efficiency of each virus was calculated as the percentage of wild-type negative strong-stop DNA synthesis measured by NERT assay divided by the percentage of wild-type virion RNA detected by RT-PCR (values were averaged over two different first-strand primers). Relative reverse transcription efficiencies of TAR1, TAR2, TAR3, TAR4, TAR5, TAR6, and wild-type viruses (lanes 1 to 7, respectively) are shown.
