PERMANOVA analyses were run with the code adonis2. The dispersion statistics reported here were permutation tests on the distances to centroid between groups (the nine sites, nematode presence vs. absence, or symptomatic vs. asymptomatic tissue), which were calculated with the code betadisper. (See Materials and Methods for details.)
