Former general practitioner Upholland and disability analyst Department of Health and Social Security Liverpool region (b Penwortham 1932; q Liverpool 1957), d 12 March 2001.
After hospital posts in East Lancashire, he took a locum position in Upholland and stayed for 25 years. He was well known for his expertise as a GP obstetrician and later for his dedication to those nearing the end of their days. Following a late career move his work as a DHSS medical officer was established locally as the gold standard against which others were judged. He leaves a wife, Maureen; two children; and three grandchildren.
