Alastair Robertson

Former general practitioner Aberdeen (b Aberdeen 1918; q Edinburgh 1940), d 24 May 2002.

After early medical experience in Edinburgh, he joined the Royal Air Force, seeing service in north Africa and the Far East. He was in a plane that crash-landed on the island of Phuket just after the Japanese defeat. Following demobilisation, he joined a general practice in Portlethen just south of Aberdeen, later establishing a separate practice in Kincorth, which now has seven partners. He retired in 1979 but continued conducting medical disability boards with the Department of Health and Social Security, until he had emergency surgery for a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm aged 67. For the last 10 years of his life, he had episodes of vertebral body collapse as a result of osteoporosis. He leaves a wife, Dorothy; two daughters; and two grandchildren.
