After qualifying, Harold worked at Southport Infirmary where he met his wife, Marjorie. He served in the Royal Air Force during the second world war. After demobilisation he joined a general practice in Bootle where he remained until retirement in 1975. Harold devoted much of his time to care of the elderly. He was also a freemason. In 1981 Harold and Marjorie moved to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to be closer to their two daughters. Predeceased by Marjorie, he leaves two daughters and three grandsons.
