Growth of Salmonella and Escherichia strains in egg white. Wild-type Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium strain 14028s (Salmonella Typhimurium), Escherichia coli strain MG1655 (E. coli), and Escherichia fergusonii strain Yara15 (E. fergusonii) were grown overnight and diluted to a concentration of 8*10³ cells per 1 mL in 100% egg white. Growth was measured in a plate reader. The background control contained egg white without any added bacteria (Egg white only). Shown are the averages of three technical repeats per strain of a representative experiment out of 2 separate experiments.
