  • Be sensitive (lead to few false negatives)
  • Be specific (lead to few false positives)
  • Provide data meaningful to general practitioners and public health physicians
  • Require a minimum of expertise and resources to maintain
  • Be acceptable to practitioners
  • Be acceptable to patients
