The map fields display the maximum monthly Vibrio suitability Index (red) and the EMODnet database on shellfish aquaculture in the EU (plus Norway and the UK). Data are missing for Germany, Portugal, Sweden and Croatia. The monthly suitability index is estimated from high‐resolution sea surface temperature and sea surface salinity data within 10 km from the shoreline and it is a measure of the local suitability for Vibrio infections (when sea surface temperatures are above 18°C and sea surface salinities below 28 ppt).
