^a Strains were grown on 15 mM acetate with increasing concentrations of the indicated aldehyde. The listed value indicates the minimum concentration of aldehyde (in mM) that inhibited growth of the strain. Glycolaldehyde and formaldehyde were tested at 1 mM increments. Glyoxal was tested at 0.5 mM increments.
