Fig. 1 — Catalytically active HACL/S sub-families (green circles with varying darkness), oxalyl-CoA decarboxylase (OXC) (blue), 2-hydroxyisobutyryl-CoA lyases/synthases (HICL/S) (red) and inactive HACL/S homologs (gray) synthesized and screened for HACL/S activities. HICL/S (Actinomycetospora chiangmaiensis DSM 45062 (AcHICL/S)) and OXC (E. coli (Ec), Oxalobacter formingenes (Of) and Methylorubrum xtorquens (Me)OXC) sub-families include enzymes with crystal structures available.
