Former general practitioner Wallingford, Oxfordshire (b London 1937; q Middlesex Hospital, London, 1960; MRCP, FRCGP), died from lung cancer on 9 November 2002.

Mike joined a well established general practice in Wallingford in 1971. He had a special interest in obstetrics, taking an active part in deliveries at home or in the local community hospital. Mike was one of a small team that introduced new operational policies for Wallingford Community Hospital. From 1992 he was involved in the hospital accreditation programme and after retirement from general practice in 1998 he became the programme's clinical director for three years. Music, the theatre, and sailing were among Mike's many interests. He leaves a wife, Belinda, and three children.
