Lactational amenorrhea may be used as a contraceptive method provided the following conditions are met:
  • amenorrhea is present

  • it should only be used in the first six months postpartum

  • the infant must be fed by breastfeeding alone without supplementary nutrition, with a maximum interval between breastfeeding sessions of between 4 and 6 hours
