Circulating miRNA-informative molecules and toxicity mechanisms modulated by miRNAs. Radiotherapy can cause both short- and long-term toxicity, causing various adverse effects such as cardiac toxicity, acute gastrointestinal damage, cognitive impairment, reproductive disorders, bone growth disturbances, hair loss, and secondary malignancies. In these processes, various miRNAs have been identified as molecular information on IR toxicity, such as miR-124 and miR-34a-5p in cognitive dysfunction, miR-214-3p in lung damage, and miR-21 and miR-29 associated with pulmonary fibrosis.
