Inputs and outputs of the circadian timing system. Light stimuli (zeitgeber input) synchronize with the internal multioscillator network. The suprachiasmatic nucleus coordinates the rhythmic output to central and peripheral organs to maintain normal homeostasis. Mismatch due to abnormal social rhythms increases risk of metabolic dysfunction.
