Schematic of scanning X-ray microdiffraction. Monochromatic X-rays are focused at sample by X-ray optics. Diffraction pattern is collected by one or more 2D detectors. The diffraction patterns are regrouped to their corresponding scan positions to compose scanning X-ray microdiffraction image. The images can be computed to show the spatial distribution of any attribute of the scattering patterns, making possible the mapping of multiple material properties simultaneously [Nicolas J et al., 2019, Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology].
