Fig. 18 — The heptamethine moiety within 43a serves dual roles as agents for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT). Incorporating 2-nitroimidazole, a radiosensitizer, inhibits oxidative phosphorylation, thereby amplifying mitochondrial and cellular sensitivity to both PDT and radiotherapy. The Salmonella-modified by 43b effectively integrates mitochondria-targeted PTT with the stimulation of an anticancer immune response.
