Table 3.

Diagnostic Criteria for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome

Orthostatic intolerance lasting ≥6 months with the presence of the following 3 characteristics:
  • Increase in heart rate ≥30 bpm within 5 to 10 minutes of quiet standing or upright tilt (or ≥40 bpm in individuals 12-19 years)

  • Absence of orthostatic hypotension (>20 mm/Hg drop in SBP or >10 mm/Hg in DBP)

  • Frequent symptoms that occur on standing, such as lightheadedness, palpitations, tremulousness, generalized weakness, blurred vision, exercise intolerance, and fatigue
