(A) Morphological and anatomical adaptations to drought in lentil involve prolific lateral root growth, penetration into lower soil horizons, and increased root volume in drought-tolerant varieties. (B) Dense root hairs contribute to the enhanced root volume in lentil. (C) Drought-tolerant lentil may exhibit higher aerenchyma formation in their roots, similar to other leguminous crops, in response to drought stress.
