Scoring criteria	Description
Correct response	An idea point in the causal chain is stated accurately; min = 0, max = 4
Commission error	A text box response that did not come from the text; min = 0, max = 4
Incorrect response	A response describes detail from the text, but not an idea point in the causal chain; min = 0, max = 4
Omission error	The number of blank or question-marked boxes left without a response
Number of completed boxes	Number of boxes filled in the diagram irrespective of the content correctness; min = 0, max = 4
Number of correct relations	Correct arrangement of two idea points in the causal chain; min = 0, max = 4
