Juvenile periodontitis in a 1-year-old male neutered Maine Coon. Note the severe gingivitis affecting the entire attached gingiva, areas of gingival recession and gingival enlargement. There is also evidence of inflammation in the buccal mucosa of the cheeks (CUPS lesions) and buccal mucositis in the commissures of the lips; this is similar to that seen in dogs and is an inappropriate immunological reaction to plaque present on the teeth.
