A pregnant woman with SARS-CoV-2 infection must be given antenatal steroids for fetal indications if she shows signs of clinical worsening (e.g., intubation/ECMO is planned) between weeks 23 + 5 and 34 + 0 of gestation (2 × 12 mg betamethasone/celestan administered intramuscularly (IM) with an interval of 24 h between doses); alternatively, the patient may be treated with dexamethasone (IM) 4 × 6 mg every 12 h.
It is currently not possible to answer the question whether betamethasone is equivalent to dexamethasone with regards to COVID-19.
