Hygiene measures during rooming-in/breastfeeding for mothers who have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2
  • Wear FFP during close contact (bonding, breastfeeding)

  • Avoid mucosal contact: e.g., no kisses

  • Practice hand hygiene (disinfect or wash with soap for at least 20 sec.) prior to having any contact with the newborn infant

  • Practice breast hygiene before breastfeeding

  • Ensure a distance of 1.5 meters if the mother and child share the same room (e.g., between the newborn infantʼs cot and the motherʼs bed) OR place a mobile divider

  • When expressing milk:

    • pasteurizing the milk is not necessary

    • the milk should be given by a (accompanying) person who has tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, where possible

    • the mother should be assigned her own breast pump.
