In this paper by Vaccarella and colleagues (BMJ 2024;386:e077738, doi:10.1136/bmj-2023-077738, published 4 September 2024), the funding section should have acknowledged the support of the Italian Ministry of Health as well as the independence of the funders. The new statement should read:
