The current postulated hypothesis of bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis (BCO) pathogenesis. Bacteria translocate from acquired aerosolized bacteria in the respiratory system or from the intestinal microbiome and colonize osteochondrotic clefts in the proximal growth plates on the weight bearing bones of the leg.
