Animals from the resistant (BALB/c) (a) and the susceptible (C3H) (b) mouse strains were infected i.p. with 10⁷ PFU of MV (strain Edmonston). Other groups of C3H mice were infected i.p. with 10⁷ PFU of MV (strain Edmonston) and coinjected with MAbs against IL-4 and IL-10 or heat-inactivated E. coli (as a source of LPS). Supernatants from MV-specific CD4⁺ T cells (derived from spleen cells) were assayed 48 to 72 h after stimulation for the presence of IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-10 by ELISA (c).
